What is the Gyroscope for?

When a boat is sailing under the effect of wind, waves, current, etc. the Fluxgate compass is the one that sends the information of course change to the pilot's central, so that he can recalculate the new position of the rudder and return to the initial course. Unfortunately the compass is not fast enough, and it is also exposed to being shaken in all directions at the same time, vertically, horizontally and obliquely. During normal navigation, the compass does its job very well, however, as soon as the sea conditions become rough, especially downwind, rough seas, wind changes, load, etc. the information provided by the compass is not accurate and fast enough for the pilot to react quickly and prevent the boat from deviating from its course.

The gyroscope provides additional precise information to the compass. Technically, the gyroscope provides a signal that will vary according to the horizontal rotation of the boat, the pilot's heading computer is able to detect the slightest change in the horizontal angle of the boat, regardless of the movements in the other axes. The gyroscope does not measure the boat's heading, it detects fine and fast the slightest rotation of the boat and therefore the slightest change in heading. The gyroscope or gyrometer detects the rotation in the horizontal axis of the boat, while the compass measures its orientation and therefore the heading. Its effect with the gyroscope translates into a more precise heading.

Is it justified to add a Gyroscope?

The answer is yes. The addition of a Gyroscope makes the boat more stable in all headings, SEYMO provides a high-performance gyroscope at a very competitive price using the most advanced technology, its INS (inertial navigation system) design, raising the autopilot to another more efficient level with a more stable heading.

Do I need an Installer?

The installation does not present any difficulty, anyone without technical knowledge can install the SEYMO Gyro, you just have to connect the three cables that match the colors printed on the course computer, in addition SEYMO provides a configuration help App where it tells you step by step how to configure the Gyroscope with the pilot.

Description

The autopilots respond to the course through the compass reference but this is usually slow in difficult navigation conditions (following sea, wind, waves, etc..).

Seymo angular gyro, for autopilots, with its advanced INS (inertial navigation system) design, constitutes an important part of the automatic navigation or inertial guidance systems in motor boats and sailboats. The inertial guidance instrument of this system includes gyroscopes and accelerometer.

Detecting the turning accelerations to which the boat is subjected when it is diverted from its course by a wave, load or sails.

These signals are fed to the course computer, which continuously calculates the boat's exact speed and direction of travel and, using the computer algorithm, quickly compensates, causing the boat to feel like it is anticipating the waves, as if it were really feeling them and as if it were sailing on rails.

We will see how the system produces many short, precise corrections instead of large rudder movements. Maintaining a precise course, Automatic Yaw Control with quick reaction to correct the course

AutoLearn function, Advanced Steering Technology (AST), and Autotrim, so the pilot automatically learns the boat's steering characteristics, simplifying calibration and allowing the boat to continually adapt to changing sea conditions. Self-learning of boat variables such as (rudder gain, speed, trimer, etc..)
